GWYGH, Ep. 071: Thanks for the Bean!

We have been on a bit of a hiatus and we know you missed us -- but it was for a good reason! Janine went up to Chicago to visit Kate for a few days and they got up to a lot of fun things. Seeing Janine's favorite movie BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER (1999) was a very special treat -- and the topic of this episode. Happy pride month to all of you! We love you!

GWYGH, Ep. 069.5: Bracelet Bylaws

No matter what decade it is, parents will always be scared and confused by the weird trends of their children and often come up with bizarre explanations for their behavior, sometimes even banning toys, fashion, or media because of its supposed connotations. One such moral panic was the jelly bracelet of the early 2000s, known by some concerned parents and news outlets as "sex bracelets." Janine and Kate discuss a variety of bracelet trends from the 2000s as well as their experiences with sex ed.

GWYGH, Ep. 069: Squirtle Sunglasses

Revving up for Detective Pikachu (2019) this weekend, Kate and Janine dip into the late 90s to discuss their favorite Pokemon movies, games, and starters.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 034: Autotune the Pod

Note: There is no autotuning in this podcast. We cannot autotune. We can, however, celebrate autotune and its impact on our meme culture! Janine and her cohost (the meme master herself, Kate) discuss AutoTune the News, the Bedroom Intruder Song, and future potential graduate degrees.

GWYGH, Ep. 034: Body as an Asset

For the final discussion on Shallow Hal (2001), Janine speaks to Ivy Snitzer, the woman who played the plus-size body double for Gwyneth Paltrow in the film as well as to Maggie McGill, a queer plus-size fashion blogger. Ivy shares her experiences on set and her role in the movie. Later on, as Maggie McGill joins the discussion, we all share our thoughts on the representation of plus-size people in the film and how, ultimately, things could have been a lot worse.

You can find Maggie McGill on Instagram @maggiemcgills and on Youtube at the following link: http://youtube.com/maggiemcgill . GWYGH, Mini Ep. 033: Active Avoidance

For the first part of Janine's examination of Shallow Hal (2001), she speaks with Amanda Iman of Amanda's Picture Show A Go Go. Though Janine watched this film as a young, misguided chubby kid, Amanda avoided watching it because she was put off by its trailer. We peel back the complicated layers of a simplistic comedy and lay the ground work for next week's more in-depth episode which will feature a special voice from the cast of the film to give us more insight on Shallow Hal and whether or not it has a positive message.

You can find Amanda's Picture Show A Go Go and her other projects at www.amandaagogo.com and on social media @AmandasPicShow. Thanks to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing and The Minute Pod for our awesome theme song!

Guess Who You're Gonna Punk?

All right, we’ve finally done it. We’ve caved and reviewed a 90s movie. That’s right, it’s a GWYGH first: The Mask (1994), because ultimately, trash is timeless.

You can find The VCR kids on all social media @TheVCRKids or on their website, TheVCRKids.com. Too bad Ashton Kutcher isn’t there to catch your reaction — cause you’ve been PUNK’D!!

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 032: My Beard is Fantastic

Kate and Janine discuss what was everyone's favorite hospital comedy television show: Scrubs! Listen to our glowing review: not the worst thing on TV. In fact, pretty good for 2007.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 030: Mii Eye Hurts

If you played video games in the 2000s, chances are you suffered from a Wiimote-related injury. Kate and Janine detail their Wii injuries (or Wiinjuries, if you will) as well as Kate's Wii championship title.

GWYGH, Ep. 032: Valentine Violence

Even if you're having the worst Valentine's day ever, at least you're not being chased by a pickaxe murder, right? Doyin from Pour Life Decision joins Janine to celebrate February 14th by watching My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009), a slasher film so weak it hides behind its 3-D effects and hopes you will forgive it for a weak plot and bad acting. But when you're watching a 3-D movie on a 2-D screen at home, you cut right to the bloody heart in a box of chocolates: squishy, overdramatic, and certainly a waste of perfectly good sweets.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 028: Gyrating on Screen

Kate once developed a fixation on the music video for Lady Marmalade (2001), so of course she had to discuss it with Janine. A tie-in for the Moulin Rouge (2001) movie, this remake of the classic 1974 Labelle hit features the musical talents of Pink, Mya, Lil Kim, and Christina Aguilera.

GWYGH, Ep. 31: Smooth, RX

Kate and Janine both suffer from a cold this week, so they bring back a true documentary on what happens to the body when it's ill: Osmosis Jones (2001), a gross partly-animated film focusing on a white blood cell cop catching a villain virus before it kills his host.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 027: Bling Ring

The only thing Kate loves more than torturing Janine with bad 2000s media is true crime. In today’s minisode, she discusses the Bling Ring crimes, where a group of teenagers targeted and robbed celebrities’ houses and were later rewarded with reality television and a movie. Who says crime doesn’t pay?

Big thank you, as always, to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing for the amazing theme song. He’s the best! Check out their podcast at pluginmissing.com !

GWYGH, Ep. 030: Baked Potato Earth

Janine offers Kate the choice between two delightfully awful science fiction movies: The Core (2003) or Day After Tomorrow (2004), both movies wherein the Earth is trying to kill itself and intrepid scientists have to find a way to survive. Also, thinly veiled political criticism? The 2000s were weird.

Thanks to Paul Ryberg from Plug-In Missing for our incredibly catchy theme song!

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 026: Sleepy Corn

Kate and Janine discuss facts about Chuck Norris. They're not worried about being called out about their veracity because Chuck Norris doesn't listen to podcasts. As soon as two white guys buy a microphone, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks them in the face.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 024: Dust Belt

How do you get those designer shoes you've been eyeing but you can't afford? Simple: slap some dirt on your kid and send 'em off to the department store! If you don't give in to a child's demands, you're a heartless monster. Kate introduces Janine to a morbid, overwrought holiday song: Christmas Shoes by New Song.

GWYGH, Ep. 028: Christmas Spirit Shortage

Kicking off December right, Kate offers Janine two fun Christmas movies from 2003 with wildly different vibes: Bad Santa or Elf.

Tell your friends about GWYGH! Guaranteed to be "lighthearted fun on a cracker," according to Kate's mom's wonderful review. We love you!

Thank you so much to Paul from Plug in Missing for the amazing jingle featured in this episode!
